The Time Has Come!
The time has finally come for us to start working on our In-Depth Project. It is the 3rd of 4 milestones in Talons, and a reminder that I am already half-way through my Grade 9 year. Now the thought of working on a project for 5 months that is about whatever you want can be kind of daunting. However while I am nervous, I also find myself super excited for this.
What I have chosen for my In-Depth is ballet, specifically ballet on pointe shoes. I have been dancing ballet since I was 3 years old and it has always been something I love. This Christmas, I even danced in a professional porduction of The Nutcracker. In my mind, there is nothing compared to the feeling of getting on stage and performing. This feeling was only intensified when I got to dance on the Queen Elizabeth Theater in front of 2400 people. It is something that I will never forget. All my friends know how important dance is to me. When Ms. Mulder asked the class what they thought I should do for my project, almost everyone answered dance. So it made perfect sense that I would do ballet for In-Depth. However I didn’t just want to do something that I know a lot about, I wanted something that I could learn a new skill with. That’s when I got the idea that I should do pointe.
Now of course I needed a mentor that could help me with improving my pointe skills. Who better to teach me than the person who already does? So I have asked my dance teacher, Lucienne Anczowsky and she has agreed to be my mentor. So now when I go for my weekly private lesson instead of just working on technique like before, I get to go on pointe and could not be more excited.
Sadly I have come upon a little hiccup in my In-Depth plans. On Tuesday I dislocated my knee for the 7th time which means I will not be dancing for about two weeks. So I have to postpone my practicing for when my knee is healed. Here’s to hoping that I will not injure myself again in the time of In-Depth.
